Subject: Registration of Trumpet Winsock in UK?
Can anyone tell me how to go about registering Trumpet Winsock in the UK? I
don't want to have to raise an Australian Dollar cheque if I can possibly
help it. Can credit cards be used? Can a real invoice be obtained for tax
purposes?
Please post information here; I know I'm not the only one who needs to know
this...

Well, perhaps 2 VBXs should be created, like the shareware VBX for
IPX/SPX. One VBX would be for tcp, the other udp. The IPX/SPX VBX has
a function call IPX/SPX_recievedData whenever it gets data. Then all
you do is set the value of ipx.recieved to some string value, which
is the data of the packet. There are also values for addresses and
the like.
It is really hard to explain, but the VBX is available on
netwire archive (netlab2.usu.edu) in novusr/01/ipxspx.zip. It's
simply the easiest to use net comm vbx I've seen (although I haven't
seen that many).
Or a VBX could be put together just to do the database routines.
Last I remember, that was the only group that VB could not handle
(functions that return structures...). The rest of the WINSOCK calls
could be 'VBized'.

Make sure that your ftpd is set up to accept anonymous logins. Mosaic will
only login as anonymous with what it thinks is your email address for a
password.

Subject: Re: Using Trumpet winsock & dos Minuet
I am running Minuet from a Dos shell under Windows 3.1 for mail,
newsreader, ftp and telnet client. I have experienced problems with this
package (can't find IP handle) after I have been in Mosaic 2.0a. Minuet
does not use sockets - I presume it must talk directly to the packet
driver. Are these two approaches to accessing the net not compatible or
have I simply set things up wrong? I use Minuet because I find it the most
reliable new/mail/telnet client that I have tried.

I recently installed the Spry Air Series on my PC, running Windows
for Workgroups 3.11 in a standalone configuration (no wired network;
I connect to a unix host via dialup SLIP).
The Air Series doesn't include a dialer. Spry tech support suggested
I use Trumpet Winsock. They say a dialer will be released sometime
this summer.
Air Mail doesn't support SMTP, so I can receive mail, but not send it.
Spry says SMTP support will be provided sometime this summer.
The Network File Manager looks pretty neat, but I haven't been able to
connect to my host yet (I haven't played with it much, though).
Given the fact that this commercial package currently requires a shareware
IP stack and dialer for my uses, I'm not to impressed. Many of
the public domain and shareware applications are as good as Spry's
offerings, so I can't say I recommend the Air Series to anyone at this
time.

Subject: Hgopher 2.4 question
I get " error: return code 2" when hgopher attempts to execute winword. I
setup the viewers as per the installation guide; checking the ini file and
using the pulldown menu. What have I done wrong? I am having the same sort
of problem, but different error codes, with the other viewers (so this is less
like a gopher client than an error client :)) as well. I cannot find an
explanation of these error codes in the help or installation files.
Has anyone else had these problems?
